About the trial…

Attaining strength and remaining healthy has been a passion of mine at least since I was 12. This is what the Athena Trial is about. It is my way of developing my own strategies for strengthening my body and mind. I call this process the Athena Trial because it is representative of the many tests of patience, wisdom, and strength that I will go through. From the Greek goddess, Athena, I’m focusing on her characteristics of wisdom, courage, strategic skill, confidence and strength to meet the goals that I have. I’ll describe more of my goals in the next post.

In this world, there seems to be as many diets, workout plans and supplements as there are species. I have been like a kid in a candy store and constantly tossing one partially completed workout plan for another that grabs my attention. With the things that I’ve learned so far, I have decided to develop my own plans, specific exercises that I like the best and that work the best for me. The same is being done with my diet. The amount of nutrition plans on the web is boggling. I’ve learned general rules and am applying them to my own tastes and needs. My needs have definitely changed. For instance, throughout most of my life, the strength and condition of my body has generally stayed consistent with the exception of pregnancy and up to ten years after, in which it more or less could’ve been represented parabolically. Now, I am a 47 year old lady. I also have Hashimoto’s, a disease of the thyroid that I had preconceptions about before I knew it was real. The important thing is that it is not an excuse (I have an aversion towards excuses). So therefore, neither age nor thyroid “disease” is an excuse for meeting the goals that I am developing for this trial. Instead, age and health conditions are used as inputs that I use to tailor my diet and workout routines. This makes the journey just as important as the goal and by publishing a blog about this (my first), you are invited along for the ride vicariously.

I’ve taken pictures earlier today, the “before” shots. I plan to share them when there is another set to compare them to 🙂
